Manager, Talent & Leadership Development

This is a full-time, hybrid (3 days/week in office) role based in New York City.

The Impact Capital Managers (ICM) mission is to accelerate the performance of our members and to scale the impact investing marketplace with integrity and authenticity. We do this through our membership association, which today includes 150+ funds representing more than $70B in impact-focused private capital, as well as field-building initiatives and partnerships via our affiliated ICM Institute. Our fund manager members have backed 4,000+ innovative private companies and seek meaningful impact and exceptional financial returns. The ICM network of peers is engaged and collaborative by nature. Membership is selective.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW  

The Manager, Talent & Leadership Development (TLD) will lead the strategy and execution of the ICM Association & ICM Institute’s growing workstreams focused on cultivating a skilled and diverse impact investing workforce via experiential education, skills-building, and career and professional development opportunities. Key initiatives the Manager, TLD will oversee include 1) ICM’s Mosaic Fellowship, 2) a global experiential learning program for graduate students that ICM Institute will soon co-produce with an academic partner (details will be shared with finalist candidates), and 3) ICM’s programming and community designed for emerging leaders in the network. The Manager will supervise an Analyst, TLD, and will report to the Executive Director.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Strategy 

  • Lead strategy for ICM’s workstream to cultivate a skilled and diverse impact investing workforce within and beyond ICM member funds; manage a portfolio of initiatives focused on experiential learning, skills-building, leadership development, career pathing, and inclusive workforces; develop goals and indicators for success

  • With the Executive Director and Head of Finance & Operations, develop annual budgets and secure revenue to support all TLD initiatives   

Education, Training, and Experiential Learning Programs

  • With one of ICM’s academic partners, co-lead the soon-to-be-announced successful integration of an established global experiential learning program, including but not limited to: cultivating and maintaining stakeholder relationships (schools, student teams, steering committee, donors, alumni, judges, mentors, etc.); overseeing effective delivery of the curriculum; organizing event(s); and determining innovative ways to improve program efficacy and impact

  • Lead the Mosaic Fellowship for graduate students, overseeing host fund vetting, information sessions, application rollout, candidate review, interviews and offers, curriculum development and implementation (including summer orientation and mentorship), alumni engagement, program evaluation, and program improvement and expansion

  • Manage a dedicated Analyst and work closely with ICM colleagues, academic partners, and other stakeholders as needed to execute the above

Member Engagement 

  • Support the design of convening agendas and programming, and contribute to content development and member engagement at ICM events

  • Oversee TLD-related content on the ICM member portal

  • Supervise the design, content, and timely dissemination of the external talent newsletter, Impact Insider, and relevant content in ICM internal newsletters 

  • Support the communications team to develop and publish social content, press releases, and website updates 

  • Serve as staff chair of the member-led Talent & Diversity Working Group and Emerging Leaders Committee, working closely with the co-chairs  

Partnerships and Thought Leadership

  • Design ICM’s TLD partnerships strategy, stewarding existing relationships and cultivating new ones (e.g. colleges and universities, peer networks, service providers, etc.)

  • Oversee the management of ICM’s jobs board for member funds

  • With the communications team, manage ICM’s external messaging and perspective on impact investing, and talent & leadership development, including speaking at events, and drafting written thought leadership 
     

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 5+ years of employment experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility, management, and leadership; a graduate degree is strongly preferred

  • Experience managing junior staff and empowering colleagues to reach their full potential  

  • Some direct professional experience with and demonstrated passion for advancing talent at all career stages, and for enabling equitable access to opportunities for traditionally underrepresented talent in the investment industry through training, experiential learning, community building, student groups, or fellowship programs 

  • Strong understanding of how private capital (e.g. VC, PE, real estate, credit, etc.) can advance meaningful impact and exceptional financial returns

  • Demonstrated experience in project-managing multi-stakeholder initiatives; experience working on projects with academic institutions, preferred 

  • Professional experience working with investment funds or financial institutions, preferred

  • Budgeting skills; nonprofit fundraising experience, preferred 

  • Experience using software and project management platforms (e.g. AirTable, Slack, Submittable, Workable, Monday, MailChimp)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS 

Impact Capital Managers has offices in Washington, D.C. and Manhattan, New York City. This role is based in our Manhattan office. We operate on a hybrid model (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in office). ICM offers comprehensive health benefits, a flexible and generous PTO policy, 401k with up to 4.5% employer match, home office tech stipend, and a competitive paid family leave policy. The salary range for this role is $90,000-$110,000, commensurate with experience. Some domestic and international travel may be required (<20%).
