Sharlene Guiriba

Sharlene is a 2020 Fellow at Impact Capital Managers.

Sharlene, a former strategy and operations manager at a financial technology startup and Deloitte tax consultant, aims to learn how to leverage public policy, finance, and technology in ways that bring better educational opportunities to disadvantaged youths in her hometown of Chicago. Since 2017, she has volunteered as a mentor for a nonprofit Chicago Scholars. She supports first-generation college students from under-resourced Chicago communities with their college applications and transition into university. She also previously sat on their associate board. However, she wanted to play a greater role in mitigating the opportunity gaps in education.

This led her to pursue a joint Booth MBA and Harris Public Policy degree at the University of Chicago. Most recently she interned as an Education Pioneers fellow on Chicago Public School’s post COVID task force team. This experience further confirmed her passion for education and how impact investing can address digital needs, especially as exacerbated by COVID. Sharlene is excited to help drive ICM’s mission and grow the community. In addition, she serves as a career development coach for Harris Policy students, MIINT (MBA Impact Investing Networking & Training) team leader (as a Robert Toigo Foundation fellow) for Toigo’s inaugural year, writer for StartU, and Education Policy Student Association board member.

Sharlene has her CPA and graduated Cum Laude with a Double Major in Accountancy and Chinese from the University of Notre Dame.
